Greetings! Thank you for visiting my web site.
I am a child of the Great Plains, but have spent most of my adult life as a business person on the East Coast.
A few years ago, I began writing a book about hoarding based on a personal experience with a hoarder, who is someone I love. I called the book “Collecting Dreams” because it seemed that the hoarder always had something in mind – a dream or vision – for every object they decided to keep. The book is set in Kansas, a place I love, and was released on June 4, 2013.
As I did the research for the book, I discovered that a trigger for hoarding behavior seems to be a trauma that has occurred during a person’s lifetime. I would think it would be pretty hard to be happy living with a thing like that. Perhaps it is understandable why people who have suffered may exhibit certain behaviors such as hoarding or depression.
I like the below quote as an encouragement when we are seeking happiness. What is the secret? According to Dr. Peale, we have a choice.
Norman Vincent Peale – “When you get up in the morning, you have two choices – either to be happy or to be unhappy. Just choose to be happy.“
